Sixty-one years ago today, The Beatles' "Yesterday" hits No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, topping the chart for four weeks starting in October 1965 after its US single release on September 13. Paul McCartney writes the melody in a dream around late 1964 or early 1965 at his girlfriend Jane Asher's family home, initially calling it "Scrambled Eggs" and premiering placeholder lyrics to George Martin in Paris in January 1964.
