Trump Nominates Cherokee Sen. Mullin for DHS Head

President Donald Trump nominates Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) as head of the Department of Homeland Security on March 5, 2026. If confirmed, the Cherokee Nation citizen becomes the first Indigenous leader of the agency. Mullin, born in Tulsa in 1977, represents Oklahoma's Second Congressional District as a Republican.
